Roberto Carlos' Left Foot!

Roberto Carlos
Roberto Carlos
An easy way to spark up an argument betwen two footy fans is to mention the name Roberto Carlos. Although he played as a left full back or wing back, he was better known for his attacking skills rather than his defensive abilities. His most famous attribute however was his left foot and his ability, or lack of ability depending on which side of the fence you stand, to dispatch set pieces and free kicks with almost super human speed and curve. Whatever your view, I think most people watching Carlos step up to take a free kick would hold their breath. The most famous of these free kicks was in 1997 against France. It caused so much talk and analysis it became a study for physicists.

So here it is...................

Here is a diagram to demonstrate the physics...........

Carlos is also the proud scorer of this peach of a goal from out near the corner flag............

Whatever you may think of Roberto Carlos as a footballer or as a set piece taker there is no denying his achievements and honours within the game. Check out more about Roberto Carlos on these sites:
